The read
Our editorial read
Insomniac's hard dance flagship at the NOS Events Center: hardstyle, hardcore and hard techno, with a two-night September run in San Bernardino.
The full editorial
Wasteland is Insomniac's hard dance flagship, held at the NOS Events Center fairground in San Bernardino. The 2026 edition ran three stages: the Scrap Yard for hardstyle hosted by Basscon, the Shelter for hard techno run with Mutate and Unreal Germany, and the Hangar, a small 360-degree room. EDM Identity put the 2026 crowd at an estimated 40,000 and called it the biggest edition yet; that is a reviewer's account, not an official count. The 2026 schedule ran 6 PM to 2 AM, and a separate afterparty pass keeps the night going inside the venue until 6 AM. The crowd is 18 and up, largely Southern California, with a core that travels for hard dance and a growing hard techno contingent. The trade-offs are the setting and the rules. NOS is asphalt, September afternoons are still hot at open, there is no camping and no re-entry, the site is cashless, and rideshare drops at a Big Lots rather than the gate. If you want hardstyle, hardcore, frenchcore or schranz at American festival scale, this is the one weekend that books the full range. 2027 runs September 3 and 4, tickets are already on sale, and the 2027 lineup and stage layout are not confirmed on the pages checked.
Go if
- Hard dance fans who want hardstyle, hardcore, uptempo and frenchcore in one weekend
- Techno listeners curious about the harder, faster end of the genre
- Groups driving in from LA, Orange County or Las Vegas for two nights
Skip if
- You need grass, shade or camping; the site is asphalt with no camping
- You want a small, easy festival; this books international headliners and draws tens of thousands
- You can't handle a 2 AM close plus an optional afterparty that ends at 6 AM
Inside the festival
The 2026 edition was a loud, fast two-nighter on asphalt: hardstyle on the main field, hard techno in the Shelter and a 360-degree Hangar for the deeper cuts.
18-and-up hard dance regulars from across Southern California, with a returning core, a growing hard techno crowd and a strong European booking presence.

Worth it for / the catch
Worth it for
- The 2026 three-stage layout covered hardstyle, hardcore, uptempo, frenchcore, schranz and hard techno
- A 2 AM close with an optional afterparty that runs to 6 AM
- Free water stations and a fully cashless site
- EDM Identity's 2026 review described packed hardstyle sets and the event's biggest edition
The catch
- Asphalt fairground in early September heat, with gates at 6 PM
- No camping and no re-entry; it is a drive-and-hotel festival
- Rideshare drops at Big Lots, not the gate
- The 2027 lineup is not announced yet and the format has changed quickly in recent years
