The read

Our editorial read

Insomniac's trance-led festival on the Queen Mary Waterfront in Long Beach: two November nights, four stages plus an art car, and an afterparty aboard the retired ocean liner.

The full editorial

Dreamstate SoCal is Insomniac's trance-led festival, and since 2023 it has run on the Queen Mary Waterfront in Long Beach. The retired ocean liner sits beside the stages, and the official afterparty continues aboard it from midnight until 6 AM. The bill is mostly trance but no longer trance-only: 2026 adds techno and house names including ARTBAT, Enrico Sangiuliano and Reinier Zonneveld. The Dream is the main stage, The Vision leans uplifting, The Sequence leans psytrance, and The Void hosts the harder, darker end. For 2026 The Void moves into the new Long Beach Amphitheater next to the festival, and a Beatbox art car joins with local trance artists. Gates are 4 PM to 1 AM both nights. The crowd is older and calmer than a general EDM festival: 18+, patient at the rails, and mostly there for melodies rather than drops. The trade-offs are logistics. There is no parking at the venue, so you park downtown and ride a free shuttle from the Long Beach Convention Center, walk the Queensway Bridge, or take the shuttle from a rideshare drop on Shoreline Drive. Waterfront November nights get cold, so bring layers. Reviewers have flagged Saturday set conflicts and long shuttle lines after the music ends. The reason to go is focus: a full weekend of trance on a good sound system, with the afterparty on a ship most festivals cannot match.

Go if

  • Trance fans who want two nights of the genre and almost nothing else
  • Groups and solo travellers who want a city festival with hotels and transit nearby
  • People willing to ride a free shuttle and layer up for a cold waterfront night

Inside the festival

A calm, focused trance weekend on a waterfront, with the Queen Mary as the backdrop and the afterparty carrying on aboard the ship until sunrise.

An older trance crowd, heavy on Anjuna and classic-trance fans, noticeably friendlier and less pushy than a general EDM festival audience.

The official afterparty runs 12 AM-6 AM on the ship, festival wristband required, and some areas are not wheelchair accessible.

Accessibility
Free ADA wristband at the Accessibility Services Hub by the End Overdose tent, no pre-registration; one companion wristband; accessible viewing areas at designated stages; accessible shuttles and ADA parking, with an ADA shuttle running until 5 AM. Some parts of the Queen Mary are not accessible for the afterparty.
The accessibility page still shows an October 22, 2024 communication deadline, so the 2026 request deadline is unclear.

Worth it for / the catch

Worth it for

  • A full weekend of trance across four stages plus an art car, from classics to psytrance.
  • The waterfront site is next to Downtown Long Beach, so hotels, food and the free shuttle are close.
  • The afterparty aboard the Queen Mary runs until 6 AM.

The catch

  • No parking on site, so every night depends on shuttles, the bridge walk or rideshare.
  • Nights are cold and all stages are outdoors.
  • The bill is trance-led; there is little house, bass or hip-hop for anyone who wants variety.
